Ceramics Care & Handling

Ceramics by nature are fragile and will last longer when treated gently.

Due to the intricate design and different hold attachments to the climbing cups, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to HAND-WASH only.

If you want to reheat your drinks, a maximum 1 minute in the microwave is suggested as the stoneware clay has a tendency to get hot due to the iron in the clay body. The iron is what gives the speckled or brownish color in the cups.

Cups with the 'metal' screws on the hold handles do not actually have metal components. This silver color is a ceramic glaze and all the clay and glazes used in my work are sourced commercially and certified safe to be used as tableware.

For other tableware or drink-ware items, all glazes that will touch food/drinks have food-safe glazes. These items are also dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe - unless it is indicated that the piece has GOLD or PEARL lustre coating.

Gentle hand washing is *still* recommended due to the handmade nature of the items. The dish-washing machine is usually harsh on ceramics.

Here are a few more tips to make your ceramics last a lifetime (or longer!):

  • Avoid taps and bumps with other dishware in the dishwasher, cupboards and when handling them in the sink. This can create tiny fractures that grow over time with repeated heat and moisture exposure and can result in larger cracks or attachments/handle falling off.
  • Avoid putting your ceramics in the microwave for more than one minute at a time to avoid overheating the clay body.
